On March 5th and 6th of 2015, MengYan was invited as the jury for the 2015 GSA (Global Schindler Award). The Global Schindler Award is a competition for students of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and planning, where they are asked to submit outstanding concepts for new urban forms related to mobility, in response to global urban change.
The Global Schindler Award is a partnership between the Schindler Group and the ETH Zurich, Chair of Architecture and Urban Design and the Future Cities Laboratory (FCL), led by Professor Kees Christiaanse. Building on more than 10 successful years in Europe, the Schindler Award has been expanded in 2014 to accept entries from around the world. Shenzhen was chosen to host the Global Schindler Award site for 2014 and the city has undergone explosive urbanization, growing from a fishing village into a sprawling metropolis of over 10 million. This development is made possible through a complex system of mobility networks. The GSA competition site is Sungang-Qingshuihe (SQ). Students were asked to address the social, economic and environmental challenges presented by globalization and urbanization in Shenzhen through scenarios and analytical design proposals about mobility.
