ABSTRACT
Borrowing the idea from Walter Benjamin’s The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction to differentiate the concept of ”cultural heritages” from that of ”culture of heritages”, this paper advocates that preservation practice should be shifted from presenting the authentic ”cult value” to exploring the potential of ”exhibition value”. Intensification of the background information with limited modification of the original historical site will integrate dead relics with lively scenarios synchronically to provide the enjoyment of aesthetic pleasure to a greater number of people, rather than serve as a mere research specimen for a limited circle of specialists.
