As an international cultural event to be held annually in the capital city, the 2019 Beijing Design Week opened at on 4th September and the events will be lasted to 7th October. URBANUS Curated the Exhibition in Two-in-one Courtyard and participated in the “Urban Renewal” thematic exhibition “New in Old”.

URBANUS Participated in the “Urban Renewal” thematic exhibition “New in Old” with the design projects led by Meng Yan included Nantou Old Town Preservation & Regeneration, The Renovation of Guangzhou Mengsheng House, Preservation & Regeneration of Qianmen East Hutong Area, and the “Courtyards Reform” projects led by Wang Hui included Two-in-one courtyard (No.72 Dongjiadao, Xicheng), Hutong Courtyard (No.20 Yu’er Hutong, Dongcheng), A Shared Table (No.31 Caochangjiutiao, Dongcheng) and Under the Tree (No.14 Caochangjiutiao, Dongcheng). Meng Yan Gave a Keynote Speech at the Opening forum with the Topic of “Urban Coexistence: An Alternative Vision of the Future Chinese Cities”.

“Telling an East Beijing Story in a West Beijing Place” Exhibition & Events

Known as “Siheyuan” or “Quadrangles”, the traditional Beijing courtyard house has the power of synthesis. It is a living archive and museum of presenting the lifestyle of Chinese people. With the time passing by, this type of dwellings constantly interacts with contemporary life; it keeps developing innovative lifestyles. The Two-in-One Courtyard will be the platform for introducing urban renewal in the Baitasi Area. In addition to promote the project itself, it posed an opportunity for exploring new lifestyles of Hutong. The project evokes the discussion of the essence of living in Hutong. It intends to figure out a new way for Hutong Life. The exhibition is based on Ms. Bing Yi’s daily life in Hutong of East Beijing. It presents a different Hutong lifestyle by showing how she gets inspiration and motivation from her daily life in Hutong. To preserve and promote the value of the Hutong in the old city, the very essence of the exhibition is aiming to achieve this goal by motivating more energy from the Hutong residents. Meanwhile, it would also create more social value.

Furthermore, on 6th September, Wang Hui presented the thematic forum about “Third Space of city” and give a speech with the Topic of “The Third Space +” at The Red Brick Art Museum.
